The ideal IT Technician we’re looking to hire will install, maintain and troubleshoot multiple facets of a digital information system including computers, phones, Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks and data communications equipment. They also participate in a dispatch role, working accordingly with the help desk, to assist with every day IT problems reported by users. Lastly, the technician will be responsible for full user account setup, including hardware/software acquisitions and installations. Other duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in computer or information science, computer engineering or electrical engineering is required for this position.
The technician can improve their career opportunities by obtaining the qualification of Certified Network Professional from an accreditation body, such as the Network Professional Association.
Network manufacturers, such as Cisco or Novell, offer certification programs to technicians who specialize in their systems.
The technician must have the product knowledge and technical skills to program, install and maintain Cisco network components, Ubiquiti WIFI and Windows operating systems.
Strong understanding of the command line interface for various operating systems, network standards, such as TCP/IP network, and must be able to configure information systems for fast, secure, reliable operation.
Knowledge of security is important as companies face increasing threats that could disrupt operations or expose them to loss of confidential data.
Must keep their product knowledge and technical skills up to date so they can take advantage of the latest network technologies.
Excellent diagnostic skills are essential for this job. T
Must be able to troubleshoot network issues quickly by identifying the sources of problems, which could be due to hardware, software, network faults or user error.
Must also be able to analyze network traffic flows to identify potential bottlenecks and improve levels of service to users.
Intermediate knowledge of packet capturing tools is strongly desired.
Must have exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills to assess network performance and recommend changes.
Need good interpersonal skills to communicate with general users as well as other information systems professionals.
Need project management skills to ensure that new installations or network upgrades do not disrupt normal work.
Good physical health is required as there is the need to perform installations and troubleshooting at heights greater than 100ft.
